Although I’m not much of a summer lover, there’s one thing about it I do love, and that is the way it brings out the bright and beautiful colors. Now for my closet, my color palette is usually more neutral, but I decided to step outside of the box this summer with this bright orange, peach, and yellow fabric, made into a cute little top.
Pattern
I made this top by using New Look 6708, view B. There are six pattern pieces to make this top. Front, back, sleeve front, sleeve back, loop (for the button), and the neck facing.
Notions
This pattern doesn’t call for many notions at all. All you need is thread to match your fabric, 1/4″ wide elastic for the sleeve ends, and one 3/8″ button.
Fabric
I had this beautiful fabric in my stash. I got it from my daughter’s fabrics stash a while ago to use for another project. I never used it and she didn’t want it back, so I kept it. LOL! It’s a beautiful cotton and it just so happens that I didn’t quite have enough.
My size in this pattern called for 1-7/8 yards of fabric, and I had a little over 1-3/16 of a yard. However, I was able to make it work by doing a trifold with the fabric. I explain this process in more detail on my YouTube video here.
Sizing
I cut a size 10 based on the bust measurement. I also used the tissue fitting method to make sure this size was going to fit the way that I wanted it to.
Difficulty Level
This top was really easy to cut out and sew together, which is why I created a “sew-along” to help you put one together for yourself. It is also very beginner friendly.
Would I Recommend?
The answer to this question is YES!!! I would absolutely recommend that you grab this pattern and make this top for yourself. It’s cute, it’s fun, and it’s summer friendly. I do believe you will enjoy making and wearing this top just as much as I do.
